McQ's Best Of 2005 - Recommended Mixes Volume 1 - Classic-Styled Rock

For a psychedelic and classic rock lover like me, several 2005s offerings felt like manna from heaven.

The Hold Steady came on like a raging, sputtering Bruce Springsteen suddenly gone alcoholic, My Morning Jacket delivered one of the most inventive and delightful country-rock jam-fests in many a year, Okkervil River flew in out of nowhere (or actually Austin, TX) with one of the decade's great narrative albums, the dark, emotionally searing, southern gothic horror story Black Sheep Boy, and to top it all was Sleater-Kinney's thundering The Woods, the best album of the 2000s, a super-adrenalized, stunningly structured, subtextually astonishing retro-collision between late-60s heavy psychedelia and the punk rock aesthetic.

Bottomline, this mix includes some of the best tracks not just of 2005, but the decade.

So, without further ado...

INCLUDES SELECTS FROM:

Highest Recommends: The Woods - Sleater-Kinney, Z - My Morning Jacket, Black Sheep Boy - Okkervil River.

Strong Recommends: Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes, Separation Sunday - The Hold Steady.
